Ainu Stories: Contemporary Lives by the Saru River

As part of our work with Sykes Timber we visited Japan House in Kensington. The purpose was to see the exhibition Ainu Stories: Contemporary Lives by the Saru River and gain a guided tour by expert Japanese wood carver Kaizawa Tōru.

The exhibition is about the deep relationship that the Ainu people of Northern Japan have with materials that are produced in the forests and river valleys of Hokkaido.

We visited with our clients, Rick and Joe Sykes, who share many of these ideas through their sawmill and woodlands in Warwickshire. The gallery visit allowed us all to share the atmosphere and techniques in the exhibitions so that we can benchmark the exhibition that we are developing for their HQ building in Warwickshire.

The exhibition is free and runs until 21st April 2024. For more information visit their website at link.
