Centre for Alternative Technology - Build Week

For the past year Sam has been studying at the Centre for Alternative Technology nestled in the Celtic Rainforest for his Part II degree. In his latest study week, he along with a group of students was able to build a large pavilion they designed.

Sam and the team were tasked with creating a pavilion for the National Gallery's 200-year anniversary celebration the 'Triumph of Art' that will take place in Trafalgar Square next year.

They have been developing the structure for the past two months along with regular design meetings with the client, tutors and engineers.

Sam tells us that the week has been very grounding for him, he now has a much deeper understanding of how the design of an Architect gets translated from paper to materiality on site and hopes to bring that into his work here. He also gained a new-found respect for carpenters.
